Oracle Mission Statement
As a student-run publication, the Oracle’s mission is to provide a forum that encourages authentic voices and discussion in our increasingly diverse educational community. We serve as a resource for the Archer community and beyond to report relevant, interesting, and newsworthy information. The Oracle staff is committed to fostering critical thinking in our reporting as well as providing a venue for creative expression. Through these endeavors, we strive to strengthen student voices.
Oracle Comment Policy
As members of Archer’s active and engaged community, the Oracle welcomes reader comments and debate. We encourage community members to take ownership of their opinions by using their names when commenting. However, in order to ensure a diverse range of opinions, we do allow anonymous comments as long as they are respectful, relevant, and abide by Archer’s Acceptable Use Policy. Comments are moderated, but not edited, by the faculty advisor and will appear once approved.
Meet the Staff
Emma Lapin is a senior and is the Co-Editor in Chief with Yasmeen Namazie. She has been writing for the Oracle since ninth grade and in the past has held the positions of Advertising Editor and Science and Technology Editor. She is a member of the Equestrian Team.
Yasmeen Namazie is a junior and is the Co-Editor-in-Chief along with Emma Lapin. She is a three-sport athlete at Archer in addition to participating in club soccer outside of school. She enjoys learning and aspires to be a surgeon.
News and Features Editor
Sarah Wagner is a sophomore and new to the Oracle staff this year as the News and Features Editor. Outside of the Oracle, she is a member of the student store officer board, the debate team and the community service board.
Zaire Dupont-Armstrong is a sophomore who’s enjoying her first year as the Oracle’s Lifestyle Editor. She is a three-season athlete and a part of Diversity Club and on the Community Service Board. She is also a friendly employee at the Student Store…come say hi!
Sydney Stone is a sophomore and is new to the Oracle staff this year as the Voices Editor. She plays cello in the Upper School Orchestra and is a member of the Ambassador Leadership Team. In addition to heading up the Voices section, she enjoys writing for News and Features.
Marcela Riddick is a sophomore who is delighted to be working on the Oracle this year. She is the Sports Editor along with being a triple varsity sport athlete. She runs BSU with two other sophomores, loves listening to music, and enjoys learning new things—especially in the sciences.
Rosemary Pastron is a sophomore and a new member to the Oracle this year as the Photo Editor. She is a musician who also enjoys writing, drawing and of course, photography.
Ilene Gonzales is a sophomore and new to the Oracle staff this year. She is a student athlete with a passion for soccer and also enjoys drawing and listening to music. She primarily writes for the Sports section.
Haley Kerner is a sophomore and is new to the Oracle staff this year. She is a student athlete who loves playing volleyball and enjoys learning and writing about the world around her. She primarily writes for the Sports section. Her main focus in school is academics, and her favorite classes this year are Chemistry and Modern History.
Gaia Richardson is a junior who is new to the Oracle staff. Her focus lies primarily in writing for the Lifestyle and Voices sections.
Madison Richardson is a junior who writes mainly in the Voices section of the Oracle staff. It is her first year writing for the Oracle.
Beatrix Rowland is a sophomore, and it is her first year on the Oracle staff. She mostly writes for the News section.
Helena Heslov is a sophomore and a new addition to the Oracle staff this year. She is an excited student who is eager to learn and has a passion for fashion. She loves helping out the community, which is why she is a member of Archer’s Community Service Board. Most of the time she writes for the Lifestyle section, as she is interested in entertainment, food, and (of course) fashion.
Anabel Palmer is a sophomore and a new contributor to the Oracle staff this year. As a student athlete, she enjoys writing for the Sports section because it’s her way of staying connected to the most important aspect of her non-academic school life.
Siena Deck is a sophomore at Archer and a new member of the Oracle. She plays tennis, is a member of Mock Trial, and is an AIDS Ambassador. She loves writing, reading, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. She mainly writes for the Lifestyle section, but you will also see her work in News.
Kayry Gonzalez is a sophomore. She is a Student Ambassador who is involved with Mock Trial and the photography club. For the Oracle, she mostly writes for News and Features.
Sara Seaman is a sophomore in the Oracle staff this year writing primarily for the Lifestyle section. She enjoys writing about art programs and extracurricular activities; she also likes reviewing everything from books to food.
Haley Jamieson is a sophomore and is new to the Oracle staff. She writes primarily for the Lifestyle section. She is involved in extracurriculars outside of Archer and enjoys history and chemistry.
Ms. Taylor teaches The 21st Century Journalist at the beginning and advanced level. She is a strong proponent of student voices and believes journalism teaches skills needed in all aspects of professional life. She has been an English teacher at Archer since 2006 and is terribly proud of the work her students do on this news site.
